- Students must be enrolled in a full-time programme that is regular Undergraduate/Postgraduate or Ph.D.
- Scholarships are to be considered for the students pursuing further education in Science, Humanities, Languages, Commerce/ Management, vocational studies, Fine Arts, etc. till Ph.D. level (Ph.D. scholars will be awarded as per the UGC).
- Pursuant to Engineering, Medicine, Technology, Management, and Law degree/diploma programmes will be provided scholarship till the Postgraduate level.
- Out of 1000 scholarships, 26.5% are reserved for Scheduled Caste with 15%, Scheduled Tribes with 7.5%, and 4%for the Physically Handicapped.
- Students pursuing education from Private or Distance Learning programmes are also eligible to attend the exam provided they do not exceed the age limit that is less than 18 years.

Selection Criteria:
- The entrants of NTSS shall have to undergo MAT (Mental Ability Test), LAT (Language Ability Test), and SAT (Scholastic Ability Test).
- The qualifiers of these tests will be participating in Stage 2 of the selection.

NTSE will be conducted at various exam venues in all the 36 states across India.
Beneficial Amount:
- For Class XI and XII, Rs.1250/- will be awarded.
- For UG and PG level Rs. 2000/- shall be given.
